we brought daniel to his first art exhibit: Pierre Alechinsky @ musée granet.

it was the opening so the artist was there along with the mayor and some other aixois VIPs.

I’m embarrassed to admit i didn’t know Alechinsky’s work before last night. the odd thing was walking around the museum i felt inspired in a familiar way, like if i had memories of these paintings in the back of my mind for years and years.

his playfulness, spontenaiety, choice of colors (awesome), use of papers, and hat-tipping to the comic strip genre make Alechinsky an instant fave for me. this might sound dumb but i also dig the fact that he’s alive.

I would have liked to talk to him but i couldn’t muster the nerve to bust through the cloud of his entourage. he seemed to get a kick out of seeing a little baby at his opening though, he cracked a big smile when he saw him in my arms. Daniel gives the show two thumbs up (with drool). we will definitely be going back soon, to see the paintings framed by a little less crowd this time.
